The Difference between Anniversary Bands and Wedding Bands

There are many significant differences when you are buying an anniversary ring compared to when you purchased the wedding bands for your partner. Probably though one of the most important ones is that you are a whole lot more familiar with your spouse’s tastes than you were when you purchased the wedding bands. So at least this makes your shopping for the anniversary ring a little easier.

The first thing you want to do is understand that the anniversary rings have been dubbed “eternity” rings, which is most appropriate. You are going to find that there are many choices and selections awaiting you when you are about to buy the ring.

Wedding bands are somewhat traditional although there have been many changes and variances in these over the years as well. One of the big differences with the anniversary bands is the selection of stones. Meaning it can range from diamonds to emeralds to pearls or many of the other types of jewels. With the wedding bands they are predominantly diamonds if a stone is being chosen. Again though almost anything goes nowadays.

One of the things that you may want to keep in mind though is that the anniversary ring has to compliment the wedding band in most cases. Many women like to wear their anniversary ring on the same ring finger as their wedding bands. Although they are often worn on the right hand as well. Especially if the engagement ring and wedding band have fairly large bands.

The wedding bands are most often comprised off less diamonds or diamond patterns than what the anniversary rings are. Again though this will come down to a matter of choice. You will have the same options as to the width of the bands, and again you may want to be sure that these compliment the wedding rings.

There is nothing wrong with being more extravagant with the diamond settings in the anniversary ring than what is the wedding bands. It must be remembered that although the similarity of what they are representing is the same, the anniversary ring is marking a mile stone of that relationship.

Another difference between the wedding bands and the anniversary rings is the ability to be able to add to the ring. Most often the wedding bands are not designed to add extra stones to them as this is not a normal practice. With the anniversary rings though you could pick a ring design that would allow you to do this in the future. For example you could buy a 10 year anniversary ring, and then for the 15th or 20th year anniversary have stones added to the 10 year ring.

Although there are many differences between the wedding and anniversary rings there is one thing they both have in common. That is there representation of the love and bond that exists between the two people involved. These rings are not meant to be a representation of monetary worth.
